One of the more popular boy groups in South Korea is Winner, a band that has been gaining public attention even before their 2014 debut on the reality show Win: Who is Next. There are four members in Winner: Jinwoo, Seunghoon, Mino, and Seungyoon. The name, Winner, represents the boys standing up for their liberty and freedom. Though some may not like the name, it certainly works for the group, and they have made plenty of hits under it.

Kang Seung-yoon, the group’s leader, was a contestant on Superstar K2, a singing contest, where he reached the final four. The following year, he signed with YG Entertainment and made his acting debut in High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged. In 2013, he debuted as a solo artist, releasing multiple tracks including “It Rains.”

Lee Seung-hoon, was also a singing competition contestant; he competed in K-POP Star in 2012 and came in fourth place, after which he was recruited by Yang Hyun-suk. On May 16, it was announced that Seung-hoon had signed under YG Entertainment. He also previously danced as a member in “Honest Boy” and choreographed a flack mob for BIGBANG’s G-Dragon.

Mino finished in second place on “Show Me the Money 4” and was initially recruited into Block B, but he left the group before their debut. In 2011, he was a part of BoM under Y2Y Contents Company, but the group disbanded two years later. In 2013, he auditioned for YG Entertainment after acting in The Strongest K-Pop Survival in 2012.

Nam Tae-hyun auditioned for YG in 2011, and he performed with Jinwoo as a backup dancer in the 2011 YG Family Concert, but he is no longer a member of the group.

In 2017, Winner won more than 7 artist of the year awards, and many of their albums have sold hundreds of thousands of copies in South Korea. More recently, they have continued to become even more popular around the world, spreading their unique style of singing coupled with their dancing talent. There is no doubt that Winner and their music style will only become more popular around the world in the future.
